Message from the principal.

I would like to welcome you to our school website. We have changed the format of our website, to make it easier to update on a regular basis, and more accessible for classes. In our school we pride ourselves on our friendly and caring school environment, where all involved in our school strive to ensure that each and every child as a positive and fulfilling experience of primary education. We aim to focus on the academic, physical, spiritual and social aspects of the development of our children, and offer a holistic approach to education. As principal I would like to highlight some of the following activities ongoing in our school.

Children who make special efforts in different aspects of school life are rewarded with stickers, prizes, cetificates and at school assemblies.

Regular assemblies are held in our school hall, where all staff and children gather to pray, sing, display work or talents, discuss isssues etc; These occasions unite us as a school community.

Birthday Stickers

Children receive a special sticker and birthday card from the principal on their birthday.

We have a school choir that meets on a weekly basis. In 2008, we produced a wonderful school musical of “Oliver”. We are very proud of our musical achievements. This year, we entered Feis Shligigh and we really enjoyed the experience. We also sang at special school events, including the First Holy Communion. We sang carols in Quayside shopping centre at Christmas, and visited and sang for the residents of Nazareth House. This school year, we are hoping to produce the musical story of Joseph. Our choir have started working on the music and we will shortly be holding auditions for the parts. We are very excited about this upcoming production- watch our ongoing nes posts for more information!

 IT Development

We have recently been fundraising very hard and we have just purchased 16 state-of-the-art laptops. These are housed on a mobile laptop trolley which can be transported in and out of classrooms for children’s use. We are developing our IT on an ongoing basis, and are delighted with our progress to date. This year, we have put interactive whiteboard technology in all classrooms, which is of huge benefit to our children. Our parents have been very helpful in fundraising for us to equip our school with this technology. We are very grateful to them.

Organic Garden

We are very proud of our organic garden, which Mrs. O Rourke co-ordinates. All classes have responsibility for a bed, and there are a wide variety of fruits and vegetables planted in our garden. It is really beautiful and we are very proud of it. 3rd and 4th classes last year entered a national competition called “The Incredible Edibles”. They produced wonderful projects. Last year’s 5th class eneterd a national project for “Tidy Towns” and also documented the progress of our organic garden. They have just been awarded a beautiful certificate as they were regional finalists in this national competition.

Active School Flag

One of our biggest achievements this year is being awarded this flag. We worked hard all year, producing action plans and working on ensuring that our school is as active as possible. We are particularly proud of our “Friendship Squad”, which we have in place. This is a group of children from 5th class who took responsibility for making the yard as active and happy as possible during lunch breaks. They wear special bibs and have special “Friendship Stop” signs. They teach the children games and each week they introduce a new “Craze of the week”, which includes activities such as skipping, catchball, mini golf, elastics, obstacle courses, tennis etc; The children on our school love this, and it has transformed lunchtimes for all in our school. We are raised our flag on Wednesday, 24th June, 2009.  Enrolment Forms are available from Mrs Hampson and any parents wishing to enrol their child are most welcome to visit our school for a tour.
