Sligo EC 01

On Friday October 8th, we went on a bus to Sligo Education Centre to show work on our iPod Touches. There were lots of principals from schools around Sligo there. Mary, who gave us the iPod Touches, was there as well. Fiona’s mum was there and Caoimhe O’s dad was there and Mrs. Clarke, our principal, was there. We were there for an hour. Some of the apps we showed are Alligator, Faces iMake, Rory’s Story Cubes, Storynory podcasts and Chicktionary. When we were leaving we got a goodie bag from Mary. We had great fun showing off the iPods.

Vegetable Print 01

We did fruit and vegetable prints at school. Some of the vegetables we used are potatoes, carrots, bananas, radish, pepper and onions. We used different paints and put the vegetables in the paint. We stuck them on the wall in the classroom when they were dry. The vegetable prints were great fun to make.

We made a podcast of the play “Witch Griselda Rides Again”. We started off by reading the play a few times. Then the parts were given out to everybody. We recorded the play on the class computer using Audacity. We then had to make it into an MP3 file and put it on our blog. We had lots of fun making it. We hope we can do it again sometime.

We created Flickr Lunes and made them into a video. A Lune is a kind of poetry with three lines. There are three words on the first line, five words on the second line and three words on the third line. We used our iPod Touches to create the Lunes. We used pictures from Flickr to create the Lunes. We used Photostory to put all the Lunes together and make the video. We recorded our own voices reading the Lunes for the video. You can watch our video here. We hope you enjoy the video.

Our basketball coach’s name is Mike Stephens. He is a very good coach. At the start of the session we do dribbling cone to cone. After training we do passing in pairs. We play the matches on the basketball court at the back of the school. When we play matches Mike puts us into two teams. When Mike blows the whistle, you have to freeze, but some people just keep on running. A dog called Buster always comes and annoys us. The last session of basketball, Mike wasn’t coming so he called his friend to coach us but he never showed up.

Second and Third Class learned one Irish poem and one Irish song for Hallowe’en. We made them into podcasts for our school blog. We hope you enjoy them.

Here are two interactive games to help pupils to learn the counties of Ireland:

Both are played online and don’t need any software downloads.

This a sample of how we use iPods to do a spelling test.

Library Trip 01

Today we went to Sligo County Library to listen to an author named Malachy Doyle.as part of Children’s Book Festival 2010. We listened to him read some stories that he had written. There was one story called “Football Ghosts”. He read half of it and he asked us some questions. He also asked us what we thought would come next.

Library Visit 02

There was another story called “The Lambton Curse”. It was about a young rude boy called Young Lambton. While his family was at mass on Sunday he went out fishing. He caught a worm that looked like an eel. When his family returned from mass he threw the worm down the well. An old man told him not to do it because whoever caught the worm had to keep it. Because he caught the worm, Young Lambton’s family would be cursed forever.

Library Visit 03

Another book was called The Dancing Tiger”. It was about a little girl and a tiger who danced in the forest at night. Two girls from the class danced with a teddy tiger that Malachy had brought with him.

We really enjoyed our library trip. We thought the stories were really good and interesting. We thought that Malachy Doyle was a good storyteller and author. The whole trip was outstanding.
